The Benefits of Cutting out Alcohol

Once you start to cut out on your alcohol intake, you will notice many benefits.

You Will Save Your Brain

Heavy drinking may have extensive and far-reaching effects on the brain, ranging from simple ‘slips’ in memory to permanent and debilitating conditions that require lifetime custodial care. Even moderate drinking can cause memory lapses, and on the other extreme, binge drinking can result in severe memory loss. However, even alcoholics who have already experienced cognitive impairment, can regain at least some brain function within a year of abstinence.

Save Money

This may seem obvious but you may be surprised how much money you will save! Say goodbye to that “sick feeling” over how much money you wasted on drinks. The best part, besides being happy with your self-control, is that you can spend that new-found money on something else MORE valuable, or even save it for that special item you’ve always wanted to have in your life! Try to work out how much money you spend each week on alcoholic drinks, and see how much you could save over the course of a year.

No More Hangovers!

The joy of waking up sober is one you will never tire of. No headaches, nausea or general sickness, but a renewed energy and zest for life. This is definitely one of the better reasons to quit drinking alcohol!

Healthier Skin

Alcohol creates inflammation throughout your body and skin, and its effects far surpass dehydration alone. Dullness, enlarged pores, discolouration, sagging, fine lines and lack of resilience are just some of the symptoms that can result within the skin. So cut out alcohol and your skin will start to look great again! Sometimes we forget how we USED to look when we didn’t drink, and how much our facial features have deteriorated from drinking. Get used to hearing “you look great” from your family and friends!

Improve Your Mood

Since alcohol is a depressant it can have a real effect on your mood. Alcohol can disrupt brain function and brain cell and neurotransmitter function, possibly leading to brain damage, depression and even suicidal thoughts. So cut back and you will start seeing the benefits.

Get Better Sleep

A few alcoholic beverages in the evening may initially make us drowsy, but within just hours of having a drink, the alcohol triggers a burst of norepinephrine (a hormone that increases as a result of excitement or stress) in the system and causes you to come back to consciousness. The result is a very poor night’s sleep. Be sure to check out our blog post for more information on this by using the buttons at the bottom.

Help you Lose Weight!

Good news if you’re looking to drop a few pounds. Quitting alcohol promotes weight loss, especially for women. Many types of alcohol are loaded with sugar or become sugars when processed by the body.

Of course alcohol in moderation won’t have devastating effects on your body, but try cutting out Alcohol for just a month and see if you start to notice the benefits.
